Use special characters

Take another look at the sender address line – we can do a little better, right?

In our example, the star characters which shall separate company name, street and town, look rather clumsy. A middle dot would be more beautiful. But how do you get one if your keyboard doesn't offer one?

• Select the sender address line text frame once more in text edit mode. (Select the text tool and click into the text frame until the text ruler is visible above the frame.)
• Now place the edit cursor in front of the first star character and choose Special Characters from the Edit menu. A dialog opens which shows all special characters, which are available under Unicode for the currently selected font.

  

• Look for the category Latin-1 Supplement in this dialog. You will find the MIDDLE DOT very soon. A click on Insert inserts this character on the actual position of the edit cursor. (Don't wonder why the dialog Special Characters doesn't close automatically. Special Characters is a system palette of Mac OS X which will stay open until you close it yourself.)
• Now delete the no longer required star and mark the second star as a text block with your mouse. Insert another middle dot in the text frame. It will automatically overwrite the marked text block.
• Your sender address line should look similar to ours right now.
