New Line Object

Although you might use the Line tool first when creating line frames, please keep in mind that lines are also shapes. Also, line frames in iCalamus don't have to keep their content – you can easily change them at any time. Simply choose the action menu item 'New Line Object' and select one of the offered line shapes.

The first group of line shapes offers basic lines which cannot be changed. The second group offers 'dynamic' line shapes which bring along user-editable parameters. All line shapes are described in detail below.

There is not much to say about the first four basic line shapes. Use them, add line symbols (e.g. arrow tips) and different line strokes, colors and shadows to adjust the lines to your needs.

Hint: Although lines are vector shapes, they don't have the shape referred to in Frame shape in the Frame inspector. Hence it is not necessary to switch on/off the Draw Shape checkbox in the Frame inspector.

Multiple Lines

This line shape looks rather simple but it is really powerful. Increase the default number of lines from 3 to 5 – and you get perfect line frames for music scores.

But there is more that multiple lines can offer. Using different line ends, you should also try the Alternate direction feature as shown below.

Circle Arc Line

A full circle is just a special case of a circle arc line here. A circle arc line is described by a start angle and an end angle. They form the outline of a circle.

Line with Variable Corner

This line basically forms a roof but can be adjusted as you like it. Please keep in mind that you can even flip these roofs in horizontal or vertical direction (using the Geometry inspector) to get more varieties.
